Third victory in a row - Wintercross Zeegse

February 6th 2005 - This weekend, Simon completed his trilogy of Cross Country victories in the North of The Netherlands with a winning performance in the Winter XC in Zeegse. Again, he led the runner-up (this time Henry Tibben, who beat Wim Opten) by more than a minute.

"The course was very challenging and my competitors are getting in good shape for the Dutch Championships. I felt strong, but realise that the competition at the Dutch Championships will be substantially tougher than here in the local races up North.", Simon said after the race. Simon had a special reason to participate in this specific race: the race organiser is suffering from a similar medical condition as my father. "I know the situation quite well, so I wanted to show my support to Arnoud in these difficult moments of his life. He has meant a lot to the local track and field community, has been a voluntary coach for many years and has never asked a penny of payment for all his contributions to his sport. He is a great man, and I hope that I have given him the credits he deserves by participating in his race", Simon told reporters.

Simon also confessed that part of the reason he runs so many races in the North is that he wants to test the waters with respect to local sponsorships for himself and his girlfriend Adrienne. "We both win all our races here, which could potentially be interesting to local business people for sponsorships".
