Simon dominates Hondsrug Cross Country Race in EmmenJanuary 29th 2005 - As part of a tough training week, Simon ran the 8.4 km long regional XC race in Emmen, named Hondsrug cross. The race was, for regional standards, heavily loaded with good runners, among whom Wim Opten (2nd in Ekehaar), Olfert Molenhuis, Mark Leeman and Henry Tibben. Simon dominated the race from the second lap onwards and cruised to a lead of almost 1 minute during the last of 4 laps. Runner-up (and still with Simon after 6 km) was youngster Olfert Molenhuis, one of Hollands upcoming steeple chase talents who trains with Simon in Groningen. "I am quite happy about the way I felt today", Simon said. "I felt comfortable and quite strong in the end, and had a good stride which did not fatigue. I realise though that, at the national level, competition will be much tougher and I will not be feeling so comfortable".
