Simon last in Great North Mile, NewcastleSeptember 21st 2003 - Just 6 days after a disappointing Monaco World Athletics Final, Simon ended in last position in the International Great North Mile in Newcastle, on Saturday 20th. The 1 mile race, which is rather short for Simon and without the usual barriers he faces in the steeple chase, was loaded with a world-class field of elite 1500m runners. "I did not even run all that bad, but experienced that I simply lack some speed compared to the real world class 1500m runners in this field", Simon said after th erace. The race was won by British champion Michael East, who beat Silva (POR), Longo (ITA) and Higuero (SPA) on the finish line. Gert-Jan Liefers (NED) finished in 8th place after leading most of the race.
