Super Saturday: Simon rushes to 3.40 1500mJuly 30th 2006 - In a last minute decision to run a Goteborg speed prep in Belgium, Simon turned to Ninove (Belgium) to participate in the 1500m. There were so many elite runners that 3 international heats of 18 runners each were staged. Simon was in the fastets heat, which was loaded with runners from Europe, Americas, North-Afrika and Qatar / Kenia. Simon went out agressively and came at 300m in 42.4 seconds, too fast in fact. He felt the lactic acid coming and had to taper for some 2 laps, finding himself back in 10th position after 1 km in 2.28. With 300m to go, he started moving up and was surprised to find an enormous kick left which brought him into second place with 100m to go. He sprinted to the line and did not give up his position anu more - the time was 3.40.91 (or 3.41.04 according to another source). A great test so close to the Europeans in Goteborg! | Dit moet veel vertrouwen geven. Knap dat je nog zo dicht bij jouw pr op de 1500 m. komt. Volgens mij heb je de laatste jaren op 1500 niet meer zo hard gelopen.
Veel succes in Goteburg.
