10th National Steeple title in Record timeJuly 10th 2006 - In the 1928 Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, Simon won his 10th national steeple chase title. His victory was not surprising, his time however was. Simon solo-ed to a remarkable 8.20, just 2 seconds slower than in Monday's Athens SGP. He broke the championships record, 8.26 by Hans Koeleman in 1988 (!), with 6 seconds. "This is a great confidence booster", Simon told Dutch press after the race. "I never run great times on my own, but this one felt very good and promises good things to come in Goteborg". Competition in Goteborg's European Championships will be extremely stiff, with 3 Spanish runners under 8.14 and 2 French runners just seconds slower. Simon has pulled out of the Rome Golden Gala to focus on training and rest over the next weeks.
