Simon qualifies for European ChampionshipsJune 25th 2006 - At the Dutch Nationals for Club Teams, Simon qualified for the European Championships in Goteborg by running a superb last 1000m on the 3K steeple chase race. He ran with his main competitor and friend Dennis Licht until the 2K mark in 5.57, and blasted out a blistering 2.34 last km to finish in 8.31.51. "I am surprised to see how quick I could accelerate in th eend", Simon said. "After 2K, I thought the time was irrelevant and I went for the victory. But with a lap to go I saw the clock at 7.31 and knew qualification below 8.35 was possible". If his Achilles tendon heals over the next week, Simon will race his next competition at the Athens Super Grand Prix on July 3rd.
