Simon beats Erik Negerman in Merenloop 12KMarch 12th 2006 - After a defeat to Erik Negerman in Appelscha just 2 weeks ago, Simon took full revenche in today's Merenloop in Friesland, a 12km cross country run where participants have to wade through muddy fields and even climb a few fences. Simon felt a lot better than 2 weeks ago and managed to stay with Negerman even though Simon's choice for road racing shoes proved to be a mistake. "Erik wore special XC shoes, which certainly gave him a competitive egde on the fields. I did the race on road racers that were far too slippery. Wearing spikes was impossible due to the paved road elements in the course", Simon said after the race. On the last kilometer, Simon managed to shake off Negerman, who is always a very tough and motivated competitor. "I like racing Erik, he is a very friendly guy and a great long distance runner, who likes to come out to the North of Holland to do some tough races. I was also happy to see Niels Strik back in the field after an absence of running for over 2 years. He is a great runner as well and we will continue to see good results from him as off today", Simon predicted. | Grou is een mooie voorbereiding op de scholierencross in Apeldoorn,waar je in het verleden nog een pittige 5x1000 met je broer en Gert-Jan heb afgewerkt.Ik ben er trots op dat de snelste Europeaan op de 3st morgen aanwezig is. |
